Jim Scott ,our club Secretary / Treasurer has been seeking out some of the best locations where we can base our club and then send in all the paper work to the AMPBA allowing us to operate with the appropriate insurance ( Public Liability ) . After meeting with Mandurah Shire Parks department Jim was shown several locations ,most with limitations on Parking , Vision , proximity to housing etc then he was shown a storm water catchment lake in Dudley Park Gardens known as Hermatige Back lake . It has great parking areas , vision is exellent , size is good and shape will make great racing and whats more its fresh water, As of today we have been given the green light and Jim is completing the application form and getting our insurance in place , we can all look forward to some great race days at a top venue  ! Mandurah Marina Boatshow ! what a great weekend  turns out we had 14 boats on display everything from outrigger to crackerbox, the area for the display was a bit small and just to spice up the performance we where surrounded by mega dollar boats , anyway all did go according to plan ,we put on three displays each day and the only mishap was Johno's mono hull having a reciever ,battery meltdown during a display, luckily  the boat flipped and the crowd cheered thinking it was totally controlled , oh well  no damage done exept for Johno's nerves he will never be the same !!
I must say thanks to all the guys that made it , i reckon they will want us back next year .  Boat show pics

M.M.P.C  Adverts have been placed in local papers as part of the incorperation process , this will enable us to operate as an official club of the of the AMPBA , Our insurance issues are also covered in this process so we can all race with peace of mind , the insurance is not member to member but is public liability , We can all help reduce injury risk by making sure know one is around the prop when boats are started ( Especially little fingers ) and spectators are a safe distance fom the course ..

Well finally we made it to the Byford dam , and what a great spot , winding down a gravel track and opening up to an oasis in the forrest . Great day was had by all even though there were lots of brakedowns and a few boats trying to take out some trees !! ( No names mentioned Johno !! ) check out the movies to see all !! and another boat trying to brake a circumnavigation record that know one knew about ( No names mentioned Andrew !!) with a throttle stuck on 3/4 and a tank full of juice , it was fun to watch for about 20 minutes !! lucky no harm was done although i think Andrews thumb might take a while to get over it .
I think ( with exeption to this weekend ) our boats are getting more reliable , and maybe now we should start pairing up after we all warm up , and get some racing happening   : ) i will post some ideas in Members info soon .

2/12/04           We are officially now Mandurah Model Powerboat Club Inc

The first race day turned out to be abit lacking in attendance, but im sure everyone had there reasons , maybe if people can contact me or Jim if there not coming it will make organizing the BBQ and Racing alot easier ! Well that said the day ended up with five or six races Rob and myself had a few good runs and Jim put his Mono slipstream up against Robs Hydro , the hydro had it in the straights but the mono picked it up in the turns , Dixie got his mono going alot quicker with a few prop changes and great day was had by all .

23/1/05

Test and tune day , well the lake water level has stayed at a useable level three new boats where there to put through there paces , Jim had his aeromarine cat ( Kat a Tonic ) with all new radio gear she shows lots of potential !! Rob had a new Blat Racing Mono with his faithfull 23 zenoah installed , and i had an older aeromarine sprint cat with a new 26 zenoah and hanson exhaust , we played and tuned etc and all left Happy !!

Other news to date , we have official go ahead on modifying the lake , take the kidney shape out of it and give us more water space .....it will take the left hander out and make for a great racing pond , Red Roo sand supplies have kindly donated there time and machinery to do the digging !!  a big thanks to John Severin .
also Michael Johnson ( Johno ) has put his hand up for Safety offficer / Race controller so we will be implementing some new ideas on Race days ( roped of Pit area etc ) .

6/2/05

Race day turned into test and tune , still had 7 boats and was very enjoyable , jim had a good run with Cat a Tonic feeling more confident with his new controls and will be kicking ass when he installs a new battery pack to improve steering , my cat is now ready for some engine mods and performed well with the new prop 65/18,3  , Robs Blatracing mono has a 23 daytona in it and is performing better every time exept for when she skipped like a rock and speared into the bank , lucky no damage was done ,

We had a meeting with John severin from Red Roo about reshaping the lake and he is looking at it for us , its a bigger task than we thought but still should be able to be achieved ..... Hopefully  !!

3/4/05

Today saw an inpromtu test and tune session. Currently the lake is down on water slightly from last meet, but that didn't stop Rob with his Blat mono, damn that thing is quick. Some "creative" driving was needed by Rob to keep his boat upright at times. Dixie made an appearance with his Magnum to "refine" his throttle control............I'm still not too sure what is more entertaining, Dixie at full noise or "controlling" his throttle..........Great spectator value.

Jim also put in some great runs with both Slipstream and Kat-A-Tonic. The Cat definately is a crowd pleaser and I'm expecting great things from Jim in the future as his confidence with it grows.........looking good buddy. I think the cat will be the hull to watch in the near future. I can see Jim inching the throttle up each time he goes out. Look out Nic when he gets to "full noise", that thing will be unbeatable.

Adam (Son of Rob) tore up the lake with his Magnum until mechanical failure put an end to his running (much to his disgust), we're going to have to watch Adam in the future.........he's a little pocket dynamo with a speedy trigger finger.Gordan came out to play and after sorting a few "teething problems" managed to get some consistant runs until a broken flex drive sidelined him for the morning.     Johno (myself), although boatless today, managed to chef up a superb BBQ (self acclaimed mind you),  but couldn't stop ranting and raving to anyone whom had their ears open (even partially). I'm not sure if I managed to make anybodies ears bleed with my constant dribble..................but I gave it a damn good shot. .........(sorry Dave V, I get carried away most of the time when it comes to boats...........but you worked that out quick right?!)  All in all, a good, safe day was had by all, looking forward to seeing you all in two weeks time.

7/8/05

Great day at the water ski park, all boats performing great ......two outriggers hit the water ,getting these setup seems to be a bit tricky but they show alot of promise , Johno,s rigger complete with Carbon fibre pipe will sure be the one to beat! Jims aero marine cat redlined at 86 odd and held the water like it was on rails ...the only real crash of the day was Rob bouncing his hydro of a tyre at about 80 k , not a pretty site but not a right of either, overall a really good day had by all & we are all looking forward to mixing it up again , Jim Scott our Sec/tres is heading over east to the Nationals for a bit of a look so we are all keen to hear what he thinks .......you never know we might get a team together one year and head over to compete !!!!!!

Today saw a select few of the "Die Hard" boaters from the club head up to the damn at Byford. After meeting at the Caltex servo first up and drooling over Dave's new Insane Hydro, we set off up the road and through the bush to the damn.

In attendance were (in no particular order) Andrew, Jim, Rob, Adam (Son of Rob), Dave, Johno (Leon made a suprise enterance and stayed for a while........he'll be back to the model boats, I can see it in his eyes  ;-)   ). Sorry if I missed anyone?! The level of the damn appeared to be up somewhat from our last attendance earlier in the year, and I'm sure all who attended would agree, it was a refreshing change of venue.

All boats are travelling along nicely with the average speeds and reliability of each boat appearing to be on the increase. There was alot of tweaking going on amongst it all, with everyone offering creative ideas to all different setups, everyone appears to be getting faster with each run.

Jim's cat is running very nicely (almost too nice), and after having a short drive myself all I can say is watch out Jim...................I will own a cat soon enough. Andrew and Johno threw their monos in together for a little while until Johno wiped out, stripping a servo output gear, no other damage sustained. Dave's hydro is making some great progress, and when all sorted, will be hands down the fastest hydro in the club, without a doubt. Rob "Crazy Man" Smith threw his rigger in for a few decent runs with a new pipe (steel), once it got going, it produced a good turn of speed, some fast driving although coming rediculously close to the bank on occasion. Adam tore up the pond with his electric Zig Zag, this lil fella is going to be the one to watch over the coming years, each time out sees his confidence grow a little more. He may give us "old men" a lesson in the near future.

All in all, a great day was had by all, thanks go out to everybody who attended and especially Andrew for the use of his retreive boat...................will definately head up there again

See you all again at the Mandurah Boat Show

The digging has started at Hermatige Back Lake , and with rains on the way she will be full before we know it !! the kidney shape pond will be made oval shape , making it great for racing and not needing a left hand turn !!

25/05/06

Not quite finnished as you can see a huge difference , digging should be finnished tommorow and then they will spread the top soil out again , it shouldnt take long for the grass to grow back and then we can concentrate on some facilities !!

26/05/06

Wow the finnished result , that was worth waiting for , cant wait to try it out !! well done guys , thanks to Jim Scott, City of Mandurah & Malavoca earth moving
